On the Containment Problem for Linear Sets

چکیده

It is well known that the containment problem (as well as the equivalence problem) for semilinear sets is log-complete in Πp2. In this paper, we show that already the containment problem for linear sets is log-hard (and therefore also log-complete) in Πp2. This holds even when we use a unary encoding for the numerical input parameters or when we restrict the problem to 1-dimensional linear sets (i.e, linear sets in N0). However, combining both restrictions, the problem becomes solvable in polynomial time.

Weak Parity Games and Language Containment of Weak Alternating Parity Automata

Optimisations of the state space of weak alternating parity automata (WAPA) are needed for example to speed up μTL model-checking algorithms which involve WAPA. It is assumed that deciding language containment for WAPA is helpful to perform such optimisations. In this paper the problem of language containment is reduced to the problem of computing winning sets in weak parity games. For the latt...

Containment for Rule-Based Ontology-Mediated Queries

Many efforts have been dedicated to identify restrictions on ontologies expressed as tuple-generating dependencies (tgds), a.k.a. existential rules, that lead to the decidability for the problem of answering ontology-mediated queries (OMQs). This has given rise to three families of formalisms: guarded, non-recursive, and sticky sets of tgds. In this work, we study the containment problem for OM...

Functionally closed sets and functionally convex sets in real Banach spaces

‎Let $X$ be a real normed  space, then  $C(subseteq X)$  is  functionally  convex  (briefly, $F$-convex), if  $T(C)subseteq Bbb R $ is  convex for all bounded linear transformations $Tin B(X,R)$; and $K(subseteq X)$  is  functionally   closed (briefly, $F$-closed), if  $T(K)subseteq Bbb R $ is  closed  for all bounded linear transformations $Tin B(X,R)$. We improve the    Krein-Milman theorem  ...

Symbolic Solving of Extended Regular Expression Inequalities Technical Report

This paper presents a new solution to the containment problem for extended regular expressions that extends basic regular expressions with intersection and complement operators and consider regular expressions on infinite alphabets based on potentially infinite character sets. Standard approaches deciding the containment do not take extended operators or character sets into account. The algorit...

Translational Polygon Containment and Minimal Enclosure Using Geometric Algorithms and Mathematical Programming Translational Polygon Containment and Minimal Enclosure Using Geometric Algorithms and Mathematical Programming

We present an algorithm for the two-dimensional translational containment problem: nd translations for k polygons (with up to m vertices each) which place them inside a polygonal container (with n vertices) without overlapping. The polygons and container may be nonconvex. The containment algorithm consists of new algorithms for restriction, evaluation, and subdivision of two-dimensional conngur...
